Ashley Monroe has revealed both the cover art for and title track of her new album. The Blade will be released on July 24 on Warner Bros. Nashville.

The emotional ballad is one of the songs on the record that Monroe didn't write, but with lines like, "You said, 'Goodbye, it's not the end / And if you need me, I'm still your friend' / Well, that's easy for you to say / 'Cause you caught it by the handle / And I caught it by the blade," she knew right away that she wanted to include it on The Blade.

""The Blade" is such a special song to me," Monroe tells People. "I have been on the receiving end of that pain. It actually makes me physically hurt when I sing it ... but in a good way.

"I'm so thankful to the writers of that song," she adds. "They talked about my heartbreak in a way that I've never heard. That's hard to do."

The 28-year-old released the debut single from her new set of tunes, “On to Something Good,” back in February. The song, Monroe explains, was inspired by her true love story, when she fell in love with professional baseball player John Danks, whom Monroe wed in 2013.

“As cheesy as this might sound, that’s exactly how it felt,” she says. “I like that the song is hopeful, and it’s saying, ‘Hey, we’ve all been there. We all know what it’s like to be down and out, but there’s hope if you keep on going. And if you do, you will be on to something good.’”

Monroe is currently serving as the opening act on Little Big Town's 2015 Pain Killer Tour. This fall, she will join good friend Miranda Lambert on Lambert’s 2015 Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour.

The Blade is available for pre-order on Amazon and iTunes.
