A return to their roots, indeed. Zac Brown Band have released a brand-new single, "My Old Man," and fans who have criticized the band's deviation from their original country sound will be pleased to hear the tune's simple, nothin'-but-country melody.

Readers can press play below to hear the soft, sentimental "My Old Man," and see its sweet lyric video, a scrapbook full of photos of the ZBB members and their fathers. The song was produced by Dave Cobb and is anchored by a simple guitar line, accented largely by Jimmy De Martini's fiddle; a behind-the-scenes clip shows the band in the studio with Cobb.

"My old man / Feel the callous on his hands / And dusy overalls," Zac Brown Band sing, with their impeccable harmonies, in the chorus of "My Old Man." "My old man / Now I finally understand / I have a lot to learn / From my old man."

"My Old Man" is the first single from ZBB's forthcoming new studio album, Welcome Home. The record is set for release on May 12; the band says that the project will bring them “straight back to their roots, Foundation-style,” referring to the group’s first major-label album, The Foundation. In the years since that record, which was released in 2008, the Zac Brown Band have embraced myriad styles and genres of music, but, as evidenced by "My Old Man," fans can expect a more “traditional country” sound this time around.

Welcome Home will be released through Warner Music Group, on Southern Ground / Elektra Records. It will be the Zac Brown Band's first album with the label; previously, they've spent time on Atlantic and Big Machine, releasing all records since 2010's You Get What You Give on their own Southern Ground imprint.

Also on May 12, ZBB will begin their 2017 Welcome Home Tour, in their hometown of Atlanta, Ga. Throughout the summer and fall, the band will play in Illinois, Florida, California and more, including a number of two-night stands at various stadiums and amphitheaters. Among the trek’s stops are the group’s own Southern Ground Music & Food Festival, in Charleston, S.C., in May, and WE Fest 2017, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., in August.

"My Old Man" is available for download on iTunes.
