William Bell won Best Americana Album for This is Where I Live at the 2017 Grammy Awards, held on Sunday (Feb. 12).

Bell's win was announced during the Premiere Ceremony, which was streamed online before the televised awards show. When receiving the award, a gracious Bell admitted that he wasn't expecting the award, saying, "Wow, this is quite a surprise, and I am very humbled by it, and I feel glad to be here after all these years."

Bell has been releasing uncompromisingly powerful soul music since the early 1960s; This Is Where I Live is his 16th studio album. The album is a thoughtful exploration into the singer-songwriter’s 50-plus years in the music industry, which, in addition to his own releases, have included having his music covered by artists such as Brian Eno, Jimi Hendrix and Carole King, as well as a recent induction into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Bell’s song “The Three of Me” was also nominated at the 2017 Grammy Awards, for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
