Whitney Fenimore, ‘Stones’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Rootsy alt-country rocker Whitney Fenimore is premiering her stomp-worthy song "Stones" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen.
Taking advantage of an age-old metaphor, Fenimore uses "Stones" to lash out at people who try to tear others down as they're pursuing their dreams.
“"Stones" is a really near and dear song to my heart," she tells The Boot. "I think a lot of times I've felt like people will try and bring you down not realizing their own imperfections, and it's frustrating as hell."
Fans of The Voice may recognize Fenimore, who competed on the show's 13th season; as part of Adam Levine's team, she was eliminated during that season's Playoffs rounds. The Tulsa-born artist first got her start singing in church and playing in Christian bands, then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. Now, she's in Phoenix, Ariz., storming her own path in the music industry.
Fenimore will soon release her latest EP, titled Battle Within, on which "Stones" appears. The five-song collection fuses Fenimore's powerful, distinct vocals with strong melodies and subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) instrumentation to create what she describes as one of her most intimate efforts yet.
"I don't think I've ever been so excited to release a collection of songs. These songs definitely embody the last few years of my life, and I feel like the EP just sounds different than any of my other stuff, which thrills me," she says. "Each song tells a story ... This EP is really just my journey as a songwriter and a person over these last few years. These are the most honest lyrics I've ever written."
