Walker Hayes Recreates Famous ‘90s Country Album Covers to Promote New Single
Walker Hayes is headed back to the '90s with his next single, and he's found a fun way to tease the forthcoming project: recreating a few famous country album covers from the decade. On Intstagram, Hayes has shared his own versions of the covers of George Strait's Strait Out of the Box, Alan Jackson's A Lot About Livin' (and a Little 'Bout Love) and Garth Brooks' No Fences albums.
Hayes shared the first album cover recreation, the Strait one, on Thursday (Aug. 23); the Jackson recreation followed on Friday (Aug. 24), while the Brooks one came on Sunday (Aug. 26). Readers can see all three of them in this story.
Brooks released No Fences in August of 1990, as his sophomore album; it's a No. 1 album and has been certified platinum 17 times over. A Lot About Livin' (and a Little 'Bout Love) was Jackson's third studio album, and was released in October of 1992; it's also a No. 1 record, and six-times-certified platinum. Strait's compilation record Strait Out of the Box, meanwhile, dropped in September of 1995; its two newly recorded songs, "Check Yes or No" and "I Know She Still Loves Me," were both Top 5 hits.
After sharing the album cover recreations without explaining what was going on, Hayes officially revealed his plans for a new single on Tuesday (Aug. 28). The song, "90's Country," is due to drop on Thursday (Aug. 30).
Per a press release, Hayes, Shane McAnally and LYRX co-wrote "90's Country," while David Garcia, McAnally and Hayes produced the song. The release describes the track as a song that "calls back to the classic country songs of the 1990s such as “Strawberry Wine” by Deana Carter, “Cowboy, Take Me Away” by the Dixie Chicks, “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” by Kenny Chesney and others that remind of us of the youthful simplicity of listening to your favorite songs on a summer country day."
Hayes will debut "90's Country" on Thursday morning, during an appearance on Good Morning America. His performance of the brand-new song will be televised.
