It's been almost two years since country fans have gotten a new album from Trisha Yearwood, but that doesn't mean that she hasn't been busy; rather, she's been busier than many in 2016, traveling the world with her husband Garth Brooks for his World Tour and releasing an album of Christmas duets with him. But now, the singer is getting ready to finally record some new music of her own.

Yearwood's last fully new album, Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love, came in 2007, and she tells Taste of Country that, 10 years later, in 2017, she's planning to release her 12th studio album.

“I’m starting to listen to songs,” the singer shares. “So I’ll probably get in the studio in January … I’m ready to get back in the studio, and I’d like to have an album out by middle of next year."

Known for powerful ballads about love and girl power, Yearwood's hits include "Walkaway Joe" and her first-ever single, 1991's "She's in Love With the Boy," which reached the No. 1 spot on the country charts. As for what's next? Yearwood says that she's depending on the music to guide her on her forthcoming studio release.

"The songs usually kind of lead me where it's supposed to go," she explains, adding that no matter where she ends up, the disc will definitely sound like her and be something that fans will love: "I definitely want it to be a record where people go, ‘Oh, there’s Trisha. That’s what we wanna hear.'"

As fans wait (impatiently!) for Yearwood's next release, they can enjoy her voice on Christmas Togetherher and Brooks' holiday-themed album of duets, which hit stores on Nov. 11. She is also featured on a sweet duet called "Whiskey to Wine" that appears on Brooks' new album Gunslinger.
