Trace Adkins only has a few months left before he turns the big 5-0, but the country star says if he has his way, his January 13 birthday will be just like any other day.

"I'm sure that there will be a party, but it will be none of my doing," Trace tells CMT. "Why is it that to chicks, birthdays are such a huge thing? To me, they're just not. People have to remind me it's my birthday."

Still, there is one sobering thought as he ponders the big milestone. "You know that you're over half done at that point," concedes the Louisiana native. "That's a stark realization."

He may be approaching the half-century mark, but to feel the effects of his age, Trace has only to spend time listening to the pop music his 13-year-old daughter enjoys. "She doesn't force feed it to me," the father of five girls notes. "But I just don't approve of very much of that stuff. Some of those girls are really bad influences on little girls. I don't think the messages that they have in their songs are good for my little girls to be listening to."

While he may find some of the younger artists' tunes inappropriate for his daughters, Trace admits some of his own songs are equally unsuitable. "I don't let them listen to my music, either," he acknowledges. "But I don't make music for kids. I don't record music and then try to market it to children. There are some girls in pop, and that's what they do. They record nasty songs, and then they market them to my little girls. And that [expletive] ain't right. It's like my daddy said, 'Boy, you keep listening to that [expletive], you're gonna be in prison.'"

He may not want his little girls listening to some of his hits, like 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' or 'Hot Mama,' but his latest single, 'Just Fishin' is perfect for an audience of any age, including his nine-year-old daughter, Brianna, who appears in the video.

"I hope the message that people get from this song is making time to spend with your kids," he explains to The Boot. "It's not about fishing, and that's what the song says. It's anything that gives you a reason to spend time with your kids, and that's really the angle we're going for with the video, too. It's not so much about the fishing part. It's about being with your baby."

The singer-songwriter is spending much of the next few weeks on the road, performing songs from his latest CD, 'Proud to Be Here.' He's also gearing up for his next film role, as a truck driver in the upcoming movie, 'The Healer,' which will hit theaters next year. Keep track of his concert schedule here.
