Trace Adkins, Emily West, Craig Morgan Sing for Troops
Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan and Emily West are three of likely many country stars honoring Armed Forces Day this Saturday, May 16. Trace and Emily are teaming up for a free concert at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas, where Emily will have at least one familiar face in the audience. Her brother is a sailor assigned to the base.
Craig, who spent 10 years in active duty in the U.S. Army, just returned from a show at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he performed at a Toast to the Troops event. Concertgoers also acted as volunteers, assembling 10,000 care packages to send to troops overseas.
"What it means to be at an event like this is really beyond words," Craig tells CMT. "Having been a soldier in the military for so long, that's still a part of who I am. But I can't go out there and put the uniform on or go back to Afghanistan and do what I did, so this is a way for me to do that ... This is one of the most humbling experiences that we have -- to see the spouses and family members coming in with such excitement and so proud and packing these bags."
