In 2006, Toby Keith added 'actor' to his resume, starring opposite Kelly Preston and Burt Reynolds in the film, 'Broken Bridges.' In 2008, he went even further when he produced, co-wrote (with co-star Rodney Carrington) and starred in 'Beer for My Horses,' which took its name from his No. 1 single with another co-star, Willie Nelson. Despite the success of those projects, the singer-songwriter now says his movie career is over.

"When I did the movies, it affected my [song]writing," he tells the Country Vibe. "I had quality songs and we had hits and stuff, but it affected my day-to-day, my system, my routine and the volume of songs that I bring to the table when I record an album."

For Toby, who owns his own record label, chain of restaurants and brand of tequila in addition to his music career, the decision to abandon acting all comes down to one thing: time. Most motion pictures take a minimum of three months to shoot (not to mention all the press that goes along with it), while the superstar's albums have habitually been recorded in about a week or so.

"Songs get heard on the radio forever, but movies are here and then they're gone," he explains. "You heard the song today and then you hear it tomorrow and then ten years from now you'll still hear it every once in a while, but you'll hear it more than you'll see that movie replay. There's just not enough bang for my buck to waste that much time into a project."

Even though he's not interested in pursuing another film venture, that doesn't mean that the 50-year-old regrets the first two.

"I proved to myself I could do it," he insists. "Proved to myself I could write a screenplay, proved to myself that I could act and be in a movie with the Burt Reynolds and Kelly Prestons and people like that of the world ... and hold my own. And it was like, 'All right, I done that. Now what did I get out of that?' Other than the experience, we're good."

The Oklahoma native is scheduled to hit the road this summer. Take a look at his website for a full list of dates.
