If you absolutely can't wait for Tim McGraw's next album, you'd better buy a ticket to his 2015 Shotgun Rider Tour.

Since May, the country star has been working on material for a new album, and he says that he's "right in the thick of it now." McGraw's tour kicks off on Friday (June 5) in Little Rock, Ark., giving him the perfect opportunity to see which of his new tunes his fans like -- or don't.

"[We'll] do some of the stuff that we're working on and get that out early and let people sort of hear that and gauge the reaction to it," he tells ABC News Radio.

But not to worry: McGraw's summer tour won't feature all new, unheard songs. The singer says that the setlist will be a mixed bag, ranging from old hits to brand-spanking-new songs.

"What we try to do is go back and grab things sometimes that we didn't get to do in the last couple of years," McGraw explains. "Some hits that people haven't heard in a while, maybe some album cuts that people haven't heard in a while, do the stuff that's on the radio now."

McGraw hopes to have his new album out by the end of this year, and fans can expect the music to be different from his past 13 albums; after all, he never wants to make the same record twice.

“I think music is always a progression — it kind of shows where you’ve gone, where you’re at and where you’re going,” McGraw explains.

The 2015 Shotgun Rider Tour, which will feature openers Billy Currington and Chase Bryant, runs straight through the summer, hitting up various arena and amphitheaters, as well as the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival and Country Jam 2015. It wraps up on Sept. 19 in Irvine, Calif. A list of all of McGraw's upcoming shows is available on his website.
