Tim McGraw for Governor?
Does Tim McGraw have his eye on the Tennessee governor's mansion? The New Republic speculates that the country singer is considering a run for governor in 2010.
"He's been floating the idea for a few years now," reports the political magazine. "Tennessee Dems have been casting about desperately for a high-profile Democrat not named Harold Ford to take on Bill Frist, who is almost certainly going to run."
A spokesperson for McGraw had no comment on the rumors.
If he ran, McGraw would not be the first country star with political aspirations. Sammy Kershaw ran as a Republican for lieutenant governor of Louisiana last year, losing to the Democratic incumbent. The late Roy Acuff ran unsuccessfully for governor of Tennessee in 1948.
