Tim McGraw is still hobbling around on stage with a broken foot, as he continues crossing the country on his Emotional Traffic tour. But while the 44-year-old remained vague about the cause of the injury -- even seeming to implicate opening act Luke Bryan -- he is finally coming clean about the mishap.

"I don't know if it happened running or in the part of the show where I jump off speakers. It could've happened any number of ways," the superstar tells CMT. "It hurt for a while, and I kept running and kept working out and kept doing shows. For a couple weeks, it just kept getting worse and worse, and it finally got to where I couldn't walk, and it was really swollen."

The tenacious singer may have just lived with the pain, if not for the concern from his wife, Faith Hill, who finally persuaded her husband to seek medical care. "It's like a green twig break," he reveals, adding that his resistance to visit a doctor actually exacerbated the injury. "It started out as a stress fracture, and I kept pounding it, pounding it and pounding it, and it got worse and worse."

Although he'll wear a corrective boot for four more weeks, Tim admits he isn't an ideal patient. "I think I'm not taking care of it as well as I should," acknowledges the 'Felt Good on My Lips' singer. Unable to continue his running habit, he is forced to be creative to stay in shape. "I have a machine that's sort of like an elliptical, but it's a seated elliptical that I use a couple of times a day. Nothing replaces running, but at least it's something. And I still work out. I can still lift."

The Emotional Traffic tour, which also includes the Band Perry as an opening act, heads to New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts this weekend. Keep track of Tim's itinerary here.
