Joy Williams and John Paul White of the Civil Wars will be honored with the 2011 Vanguard award during the upcoming ASCAP Music Awards ceremony, set for Nov. 6 in Nashville.

"We are elated and honored to be receiving this year's ASCAP Vanguard Award," say the 'Poison and Wine' singers. "Past winners over the years have been inspiring and influential to us in individual ways. We are thrilled to be added to such a list."

The Civil Wars will join a diverse group of past recipients, including pop singer Sara Bareilles, rockers Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, the Killers, Arcadia Fire and singer-songwriter Jack Johnson. The honor is awarded in recognition of the impact of new and developing musical genres, which help shape the future of the music industry.

The Civil Wars have been nominated for an array of awards in the past year, including Duo Video of the Year for 'Barton Hollow' at this year's CMT Music Awards, along with Duo of the Year at the upcoming CMA Awards. The talented twosome were also acknowledged by the Americana community, with nominations as the New/Emerging Artist of the Year and Duo/Group of the Year at this month's Americana Music Awards. VH-1 listed the Civil Wars as one of their 'You Oughta Know' artists on the rise.
