After a busy CMA Awards week, Tenille Townes is already gearing up to take part in another musical tradition. She's headed to New York City to perform at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday (Nov. 28), along with Chris Janson and Chris Young.

"I've never been in the parade before! So, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, here I come," Townes exclaimed on the carpet before the 2019 ASCAP Country Music Awards. "I'll be singing "Somebody's Daughter" -- 90 seconds of it, anyway!"

For many country stars who grew up in the South, the biggest challenge of performing at the parade is simply adjusting to the cold weather. Fortunately for Townes, though, she comes from a place that might be even chillier.

"I'm from Canada! I got this!" she adds with a laugh. "I'll be ready. I'll have my little palm warmers, my mitts, and I'll be ready to go."

Even though she grew up with earmuffs and snow pants, Townes admits that she's gotten a little soft since moving to Nashville. "My family's like, 'What's gotten into you?'" she relates. "I'm a bit of a wuss now, but it's truly in my blood, so I know I'll be okay."

Townes will soon have time to get reacquainted with northern winters: She's headed back up home to Canada for the holidays. "I'm very excited. I can't wait to spend some time with my family and see everybody," she adds.

Between her hectic touring schedule and spending time in the studio working on her full-length debut record, Townes' schedule has been nonstop over the past year. In fact, she says that adjusting to a slower pace might be even more difficult than adjusting to the chillier weather.

"Right now, I go a little stir crazy at home. it's like, when you're out on the road, there's so many people and it's so exciting! And then you get home and, all of the sudden, everything stops, and it's quiet," she explains. "It's kind of like, 'Uh, what am I supposed to do?'

"But I'm learning to try and embrace that time, recharge and read some books, write some songs and kind of find my footing back in the stillness," Townes continues. "So I know the holidays will be a good time to check in on that."
