Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean Split the Charts
Taylor Swift's 'Back to December' has leaped to the top of the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart, while Jason Aldean's 'Don't You Wanna Stay' duet with Kelly Clarkson tops Billboard's country chart this week. On the Mediabase chart, Jason and Kelly are in second place, followed by Brad Paisley's 'This is Country Music' at No. 3. On Billboard, Brad is No. 2, with Taylor hanging in third.
Taylor wrote 'Back to December' for someone she admits she didn't treat very well, and she wanted him to know how sorry she still is. "[It] is a song that addresses a first for me in that I have never apologized in a song before. The person I wrote this song about deserves this," said Taylor. "This is about a person, who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship and I was really careless with him. So, this is a song full of words that I would say to him that he deserves to hear."
Not only is Jason celebrating his sixth career No. 1 with 'Don't You Wanna Stay,' he is also celebrating his birthday. The ACM Entertainer of the Year nominee turned 34 on Monday (February 28). "It's a pretty killer birthday present, that's for sure," Jason exclaims. "My family and friends are going to have to work VERY, VERY hard to beat what country radio and the fans have already given me today. [laughs ] On a serious note, I am really proud of this song. Anybody who says they wouldn't be nervous to try and go note for note with a vocalist like Kelly Clarkson is straight up lying to you! So, I do feel a huge sense of accomplishment to have pulled it off in the studio and on live tv with her, and then for everyone else to have responded to it the way they did ... it's just incredible, and you never take those things for granted."
Taylor, who attended Sunday night's 'Vanity Fair' Oscar after-party, continues her Speak Now World tour in Brussels, Belgium, March 6, while Jason takes his My Kinda Party back on the road to Charlottsville, Va., on Thursday, March 3.
