Story Behind the Song: Sundance Head, ‘Leave Her Wild’
When Sundance Head set out to decide which of his songs to release as a single, "Leave Her Wild" stuck out for one particular reason: In the midst of the #MeToo movement, it reminded him of his wife's strength and independence. Read on as the artist explains more about the story behind the song, in his own words.
This is kind of funny -- I don't really think too much about stuff like that, but during the time we were deciding to release the single, the #MeToo movement was really going on, and the women's power movement. My wife, I've been with her for 20 years, and she's so beautiful and independent and strong, it just reminded me so much of her, lyrically. That's who I initially thought of and emotionally connected with, doing the vocals.
I thought, there's hundreds of women, millions of women, like my wife, who don't get the accolades they deserve. She's a mother, a manager, a wife. I don't know how women can juggle so many different responsibilities and keep their sanity, but that's what's special about women. I know I couldn't do it.
So I thought, most people that voted for me on The Voice, and most of the people that know me and are my fans, know me because I'm a balladeer. I enjoy that, but I thought it would be nice to give them a song out of the box that would be something different. So it's kind of a rockin' country song. It's got that kick beat ... I thought that would be the ticket to get this one out and let 'em see that we're not just singing slow songs on the record.
