Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers released a new album together in September, and they're premiering the music video for one of its tracks exclusively with The Boot. Readers can press play above to watch Martin and the bluegrass band's "On the Water" video.

Shot at San Diego State University "on a lazy August afternoon," Martin tells The Boot, the "On the Water" music video finds Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers -- guitarist and lead vocalist Woody Platt, mandolin player Mike Guggino, bassist Charles Humphrey, banjo player Graham Sharp, fiddler Nicky Sanders and percussionist Michael Ashworth -- performing the song in a shaded courtyard. They're sitting on a curved bench (Humphrey and Sanders are actually sitting on top of the bench), surrounded by vines and other California greenery.

"We played [the song] live," Martin recalls, "and enjoyed getting the onlookers to participate.”

"On the Water" comes from The Long-Awaited Album, Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers' second record together (the actor / musician and the bluegrass band first teamed up for Rare Bird Alert in 2011). The disc features 14 songs, all co-written by Martin and produced by Grammy Awards winner Peter Asher.

As a musician, Martin has played on prestigious stages, won the International Bluegrass Music Association's Entertainer of the Year trophy and won the Grammy Awards' Best American Roots Song honor. In 2010, he created the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, which aims to bring more visibility to bluegrass artists and honor their artistry.
