Hear Sara Evans’ New Single, ‘Marquee Sign’
Sara Evans will release her first new album in three years, Words, on July 21, but she's not making fans wait that long to hear some of her new music. On Friday (June 9), Evans revealed "Marquee Sign," the debut single from her new disc.
"Marquee Sign" was written by Evans, Jimmy Robbins and Heather Morgan. The uptempo, driving song features Evans' own daughter, 14-year-old Olivia.
"If you woulda been lit up like a marquee sign / Coulda saved myself some wasted time," Evans sings on "Marquee Sign." "From the minute I found you / If it'd been written out in black and white."
Set for release on Evans' own Born to Fly record label, Words is a 14-track album that celebrates female songwriters. Ashley Monroe, Caitlyn Smith, Hillary Lindsey, Hillary Scott, Liz Hengber and Sonya Isaacs, among others, joined Evans in penning songs for the record.
“When I’m listening to a song, it’s the lyrics and the stories they tell that matter most to me,” Evans explains. “In listening to new music for the record, I was always looking for lyrics that moved me and expressed a powerful range of emotions. Women are natural storytellers, and I’m proud to have so many amazing female songwriters represented on this record.”
Evans has earned more than a dozen Top 20 hits, including the platinum-selling, multi-week No. 1 single "A Little Bit Stronger," which hit the top spot six years ago. Although it's been a few years since she's had a big hit on the airwaves, Evans feels confident that her days are coming again -- and soon.
“I would like to do another big radio splash, big hits, big tour again," Evans told The Boot in 2016. "I’m just waiting for the ‘bro-country’ stuff to get on its way out."
"Marquee Sign" is available for download on iTunes.
