After struggling to get started on his sophomore album, Sam Hunt has been putting his nose to the grindstone to focus on writing for the new project. However, the record might not end up being quite what fans expect.

“I love so many styles of music. I wish I could make multiple records, stylistically,” Hunt tells Taste of Country. "The way that I’m gonna remedy that is to make a diverse record with a lot of different styles on one record.”

Last year, Hunt shared that he was having a tough time working on the followup to his debut album, Montevallo. The success of that record has thrown the singer into the spotlight, which has made it more difficult to find songwriting inspiration.

“I was writing about my life at that moment and the years prior,” he says. “Now I am living a completely different lifestyle. I am trying to draw inspiration from that, but it’s pretty much been stages and hotel rooms for the past two years. So I’m trying to figure out right now exactly what I want to say and what I want my voice to be for the second record.”

Hunt doesn't know exactly when his next album will be ready for release, but he only has a short time before he hits the road again for summer festivals and to play at the stadium dates on Kenny Chesney's Spread the Love Tour, along with Miranda Lambert and Old Dominion.
