Reba McEntireThe rumors are true -- Reba McEntire has been to New York City to check out the new Broadway version of 'The Unsinkable Molly Brown.'

"The character Molly Brown is very interesting to me," Reba said during a press conference at LP Field Friday night, before she performed at CMA Music Fest. "Molly Brown was a strong woman with a huge ambition. She wanted to find a man with money to marry, but in her travels she moved to Leadville, Colorado, where she met J.J. Brown and married him for love."

Molly Brown is best know for her role on the Titanic when it was sinking, when she was instrumental in helping survivors onto lifeboats before the ship sank after hitting an iceberg. She was finally persuaded to get on Lifeboat No. 6, which she insisted return to the area of the ship in order to pick up other survivors. Molly Brown took on a leadership role once the survivors reached the ship that rescued them, the Carpathia, when she became a leader among the women who had been on board the Titanic.

Reba has been to New York City for a reading of the new script and hear some of the new music written for the proposed musical. "It's very appealing to me," she admits. "The production is a long way from being ready so we'll have to wait and see what happens when it is finished."

Reba is no stranger to the Broadway stage. She starred as Annie Oakley in 'Annie Get Your Gun' in 2001. She also took on the role of Nellie Forbush in the concert of 'South Pacific' that was held at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

'The Unsinkable Molly Brown' could be on Broadway as early as the 2011 season.
