Reba McEntire, AARP Interview: Icon Talks Family & Fame

Reba McEntire is far from retirement, but she's stunning on the cover of AARP The Magazine's December/January issue. The 57-year-old -- which you'd never guess from her fit figure and flawless skin -- talks to the publication about her husband and manager Narvel Blackstock, racecar driving son Shelby, and becoming comfortable with herself.

"I love what I'm doing, and I love me in my skin," the redhead tells the magazine. "Of course I'm still trying to figure out how to fix my hair, because I never learned that as a kid."

On her how her husband, Narvel, rose from playing pedal steel guitar in her band to becoming her personal manager:

"Narvel became my manager because everybody kind of patted me on the head and said, 'You've done it. Good girl.' They assumed I had peaked. Narvel was like, 'Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Here's what we could do.'"

On making sure to have family time amidst her music and acting schedules:

"Narvel will go, 'OK, we've got three days; where do you want to go?' We keep it interesting."

On her relationship with her "best friend," 22-year-old son Shelby:

"From the minute I knew I was pregnant, he and I bonded. It's a special connection."

On not being able to make all of Sheby's races:

"When I found out I had interviews in L.A. the day he was running Indianapolis, I almost cried. You never quit worrying about your children."

On trying new things, like her latest sitcom, "Malibu Country":

"People said, 'Weren't you scared you were going to fail?' I'm not afraid of failure. I just want to try things. If they don't work out, I'll do something else."
