Ray Scott is officially off the market. The singer got engaged to his girlfriend, Stacey Beard, on Wednesday (March 4).

Scott only recently met Beard in the second half of 2014, but he says that they both knew right away that they wanted to spend their lives together. He proposed in a low-key way, after making her breakfast.

“We both kind of knew it was coming, so I chose to surprise her," Scott tells Country Weekly. “It was just the two of us. No big hoopla or event-type feeling. That would’ve been a cliche and somewhat expected by most. This is between her and me, the way it’ll always be.

"It’s a happy time for us both," he adds. "Everybody deserves to feel that way.”

Both Scott's personal life and career are hitting high notes lately. He recently released a new single, "Ain't Always Thirsty," the second from his self-titled album, which came out last fall. Scott shared a music video for the disc's first single, "Drinkin' Beer," last year.

“It’s country music the way I interpret it,” he explains of the record. “Every artist borrows and basically bastardizes whatever they grew up loving. In my case, it was a combination of a lot of great ’70s country ... The good news is, the kind of music I’m making now is not age-specific. I’m not out there wiggling my ass for anybody, so it’s about telling stories, making people smile and making them feel something. And I can do that until I grow up, if the fans will still have me.”

Scott will be spending much of the next few months on the road, including stops in Arkansas, Nebraska and Ohio later this month. A list of all of his upcoming shows is available on his website.

The Boot sends our well wishes to the happy couple.
