Rascal Flatts lead singer Gary LeVox might want to move closer to a cell phone tower. The singer tells Chicago radio station US 99 that his group was invited by Oprah Winfrey to perform at the kick-off party for the 24th season of her TV show, but he almost missed her phone call!

"I was actually out at my ranch, and I don't have any service there," Gary told US99 in a call from the green room at the TV icon's Harpo Studios. "I thought, 'I'm just gonna head back home.' Soon as I got back in range my phone was like 'ding ding ding ding ding' ... I was actually hanging tree stands!"

Performing along with the Black Eyed Peas, James Taylor, Jennifer Hudson, and Criss Angel, Gary notes that it's always exciting to share the stage with other artists. "It took ten years doing this stuff, you've run into most of these cats a bunch of times through the years, so it's cool when you get a bunch of us on the same show from different genres doing different stuff."

And of the host herself, Gary says simply, "She's a sweetheart, man."

In July, Rascal Flatts became the first country act to perform at Chicago's legendary Wrigley Field. "It's so good to be back in this city we love so much," Gary gushed.

Rascal Flatts will perform Oprah's personal request, 'Life Is a Highway,' as well as their recent hit single, 'Summer Nights' on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' season 24 kick-off party this Thursday (Sept. 10).
