In the latest development in his ongoing medical problems, Randy Travis is undergoing emergency surgery in a Texas hospital following a stroke.

"As a complication of his congestive heart failure, Mr. Randy Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain," his publicist says in a statement Wednesday night (July 10). "He is in critical condition. We will have updates as they become available. His family and friends here with him at the hospital request your prayers and support."

The 54-year-old singer was taken to Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Texas on Sunday (July 7), suffering from viral cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. He was transferred to The Heart Hospital at Baylor in Plano for a higher level of specialized care. According to a statement from his doctors earlier Wednesday, the singer had begun to show signs of improvement.
