Quaker City Night Hawks, ‘Hunter’s Moon’ [Exclusive Premiere]
Swampy, Texas-based Southern boogie band Quaker City Night Hawks are premiering their new song "Hunter's Moon" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play below to listen to the hard-driving, Southern rock-influenced tune.
If the lyrics to "Hunter's Moon" are a little bit hard to follow, it's because ... well, they are. According to Quaker City Night Hawks guitarist David Matsler, the song has a decidedly mythical origin.
“"Hunter's Moon" is a heavy boogie about celestial battles and ice castles," Matsler says. "You just gotta write what you know.”
Influenced heavily by grungy '70s rock, blues and a touch of psychedelia, the Quaker City Night Hawks are decidedly edgier than the typical country-leaning trio. Still, there's plenty of twang there, and the band has shared stages with acts including Lucero, J. Roddy Walston and Chris Stapleton.
On March 1, the Quaker City Night Hawks -- Sam Anderson, Aaron Haynes and David Matsler -- will release QCNH, on which "Hunter's Moon" appears. The 10-track album follows 2016's El Astronauta, their first with Lightning Rod Records.
In advance of their tour, the Quaker City Night Hawks will hit the road, beginning on Feb. 1 in Albuquerque, N.M. Visit QuakerCityNightHawks.com for more details.
