A little bit of Nashville is about to take over the Big Apple. Ryman Hospitality has announced plans for Opry City Stage, a new multi-level entertainment venue and restaurant that will bring the Grand Ole Opry to Times Square in 2017.

Set to open in April, Opry City Stage will be a four-story country entertainment venue, located at the heart of Times Square, on Broadway. The venue will feature live performances and will simulcast shows from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

"For 91 years, the Grand Ole Opry has connected country music fans with their favorite artists through live performances, radio and, more recently, digital technology," says Ryman Hospitality's chairman and CEO, Colin Reed, in an official press release. "Opry City Stage is all about taking the diverse sounds that originate in Nashville to other markets so that fans have another way to discover new artists and connect with the music they love."

Opry City Stage will feature a world-class listening room, private event space, retail shopping and a two-floor bar and restaurant. Performances at the venue will be curated by the Bluebird Cafe, the famous Music City venue that has launched the careers of some of the most famous country stars.

"The Opry and Bluebird have each developed a wide base of loyal fans who are wildly passionate about and respectful of the music," says Erika Wollam Nichols, president and general manager of the Bluebird. "Our songwriting community is part of what makes Nashville so great, and we simply can’t wait to entertain rooms full of New York City listeners, introducing them to Nashville- and New York-based writers alike."

According to a press release about the project, Opry City Stage will be the historic Grand Ole Opry's first "home away from home," but Reed hopes that this will just be the beginning.

"The Opry has always enjoyed a warm welcome in New York City, and we believe Opry City Stage will appeal to both New Yorkers and tourists, who will now be able to hear authentic country music in one of the world’s most famous entertainment centers," he says. "With its millions of annual visitors from around the world, Times Square is a logical place to debut the Opry City Stage concept, which we believe can be expanded to other tourist-focused markets in the near future."

More information about Opry City Stage can be found on the venue's official website.
