Hear Old Dominion’s New Single, ‘No Such Thing as a Broken Heart’
Old Dominion have announced a brand-new single, "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart." The song is set for release on Friday (March 10).
"No Such Thing as a Broken Heart" is the first single from Old Dominion's forthcoming sophomore album; the band has been playing the song live since the fall. The song is a reflection on living life to the fullest even though it's not always going to be perfect.
"You can't keep the ground from shaking / No matter how hard you try / You can't keep the sunsets from fading," Old Dominion lead singer Matt Ramsey sings in the chorus of "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart." "Gotta treat your life like you're jumping off a rope swing / Baby, 'cause the whole thing's really just a shot in the dark / Gotta love like there's no such thing as a broken heart / You've gotta love like there's no such thing as a broken heart."
The mid-tempo "No Such Thing as a Broken Heart" also nods to John Mellencamp (then John Cougar)'s 1982 hit "Jack & Diane": "I wonder if Jack and Diane ever made it / After the drums and guitars all faded / Was the best they could do good enough / Or did the Heartland just swallow them up?" are the song's opening lines.
"No Such Thing as a Broken Heart" was written by Old Dominion's Ramsey, Trevor Rosen and Brad Tursi, along with Jesse Frasure; Shane McAnally produced the track.
“No matter who you are, where you live or your current status, people both old and young face more challenges than ever. It’s in the face of those challenges and standing at the edge of fear that we have to remain positive," says Ramsey in a press release. “Focus on the light that comes from positivity instead of being swallowed up. Work hard at doing what you feel is right. Don’t be scared!! Live life like there’s no such thing as a broken heart.”
Old Dominion -- Ramsey, guitarist and keyboard player Rosen, bassist Geoff Sprung, drummer Whit Sellers and guitarist Tursi -- released their debut album, Meat and Candy, in 2015. They spent the fall and winter out on their headlining Meat and Candy Tour and are supporting Miranda Lambert on her Highway Vagabond Tour; however, the group had to cancel concerts scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday (March 8 and 9) due to an unspecified death of an immediate family member.
