Neal McCoy Says the Pledge of Allegiance Every Day
Neal McCoy says the Pledge of Allegiance every day, and he tries to include his friends and fellow country musicians whenever he can. Not surprisingly, no one has ever said no.
Prior to his set at the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival, McCoy talked about a recently posted video showing him saying the pledge with Charley Pride. He says he does it every day on Facebook and has racked up nearly 10 million views in doing so. Whenever he can, McCoy will pull someone aside and ask them for company if it falls in line with what they think of America.
McCoy released a new album of American standards called You Don't Know Me recently. It's a deviation from his country sound — the album cover features him in a suit and bowler cap instead of his usual country duds. He's always been a fan of this kind of music and jumped at the chance to put out the record.
Our interview at ToC Fest began with a moment of silence for those suffering in Orlando, Fla., after the shooting that killed 49 innocent people. McCoy quickly provided a nice distraction from the heavy news that started the day. His energetic and charismatic show at Hunter Mountain was a reminder for those who hadn't seen him in a few years that he's still at the top of his game. Of the young artists around him, he says Chris Janson does a pretty good job. In fact, he had high compliments for the "Holdin' Her" singer.
