Morgan Wallen didn't write his debut single, "The Way I Talk," but he could have. The 24-year-old says he knew the first time he heard its lines -- "Kinda slow like the Mississippi rolls / It's the only way I know / Man, it ain't my fault / I just live the way I talk" -- that the song was the perfect way to kick off his upcoming freshman record.

"My buddy from my label sent it to me while he was in Australia and asked me what I thought. And the very first time I heard it, it just connected with me. As a boy from Sneedville, Tenn., it seemed like something I would write," Wallen tells The Boot. "I wanted to find a song for me to put out first that let the world know who I am, but also give everyone a chance to relate to it. And as soon as I heard it, I fell in love with it, and it was kind of a no-brainer after that for us."

Wallen, who released his The Way I Talk EP in 2016, is currently working on new music -- specifically, a full-length record. Although he says he's "not sure" how it'll be released, the project is "almost ready."

"It’s the same approach: We took an old-school rock 'n' roll approach to making the record. We did everything with a live band; there’s no program or anything like that. It’s real and honest," Wallen says. "I’ve got a couple love songs, a couple heartbreak songs that I’ve not really dived into yet. I’ve even got a line-dance song that I’m working on -- a little bit of everything."

Wallen's The Way I Talk EP is available for purchase on iTunes.
