Miranda Lambert on Recording ‘Wildcard’: ‘I Just Felt Like It Was Gonna Work’
Miranda Lambert will give fans an intimate peek at the process of creating her newest studio album in a short upcoming film called Behind Miranda Lambert's Wildcard. Press play above to watch a trailer for the film, which will debut exclusively on Apple Music on Monday (Nov. 4).
In the clip, Lambert reflects on her journey as an artist, acknowledging that she challenged herself to keep evolving over the course of making her seventh studio project. "At some point, when you make a bunch of records, you get to a place where you're like, 'What can I do that's gonna push me?'" she reflects.
She goes on to detail the rock 'n' roll inspiration that informed her new music, saying, "Country is what I do. It's who I am. It literally just seeps out of my pores. But I love rock 'n' roll."
The singer has said that her new music makes a move to a heavier sound, inspired in part by the time she has been spending in New York City since her recent marriage to Staten Island native Brendan McLoughlin. Still, she recently pointed out that her new material isn't an entirely new direction; it sounds a whole lot like her fiery early work. "I'm just back, b---hes!" she joked during an industry-only album preview party in the fall.
Perhaps that's one reason why Lambert has believed in Wildcard ever since its beginnings. "I just had confidence in the process," she says in the trailer. "I had confidence in the band. I had confidence in the songs. I just felt like it was gonna work."
Wildcard is due for release on Friday (Nov. 1). Per Taste of Country, the accompanying Behind Miranda Lambert's Wildcard will feature exclusive recordings and video footage of the singer shedding light on her Texas roots and why it was important for her to take time off and nurture her creativity in between albums.
