Miranda Lambert Drops Brand-New Single, ‘Vice’ [LISTEN]
The wait for new music from Miranda Lambert is over: The country star has revealed her brand-new single, "Vice."
"Vice" is a sultry, sparse song that finds Lambert reflecting on a string of one-night stands, lamenting in the second verse, "Maybe I’m addicted to goodbyes."
"Another vice, another town / Where my past can’t run me down / Another life, another call / Another bed I shouldn’t crawl / Out of at 7AM with shoes in my hand," Lambert sings during the song's chorus. "Said I wouldn’t do it but I did it again / And I know I’ll be gone tomorrow night / Another vice."
"Vice" was written by Lambert, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. Lambert began teasing the song on her social media accounts on Wednesday (July 13). That day, she shared an artsy photo of an ice-cold drink -- a subtle hint, playing off the fact that many people consider alcohol a vice. On Thursday (July 14), however, she was a bit more direct: The day's photo was a record player spinning "Vice" on vinyl; the single's title is a bit obscured (the record is spinning, after all), but it's there, and the clue is accompanied by a date: July 18. She shared additional "vice" photos on Friday (July 15), Saturday (July 16) and Sunday (July 17).
"Vice" is Lambert's first new music since the release of 2014's Platinum.
“I’ve really worked since last summer just writing and recording, so no one is more excited than me to have the next thing come through and show off what I’ve been doing,” the singer says. “I know I’ve kind of been ‘not around,’ but I’ve been around."
The song is also Lambert's first since her divorce from Blake Shelton and move from Oklahoma to Nashville.
“It’s been a really cool journey because I’ve lived in Nashville for the last year almost now,” she continues. “I’ve been able to write so much more than I had before, just not being on the road constantly and moving from Oklahoma. All my friends [in Nashville] are songwriters. We’re either hanging out and accidentally wrote a song or we had it set up, so I probably wrote like five days a week for five months straight.”
"Vice" is available for download on iTunes. Lambert is currently out on the road, on her 2016 Keeper of the Flame Tour.
