Miranda Lambert Will Debut ‘Tin Man’ at the 2017 ACM Awards
Miranda Lambert will give 2017 ACM Awards viewers a special treat: During Sunday night's (April 1) awards show, the country superstar will be performing "Tin Man," a non-single track from her most recent album, The Weight of These Wings.
During rehearsals for the 2017 ACM Awards, Lambert revealed that she'll be singing "Tin Man" alone, accompanied only by her acoustic guitar -- a decision that she calls "really scary." The Tennessean reports that Lambert's song selection was a last-minute change.
"I don't know what a single is anymore. I've not ever been one of those artists that's driven by singles. I'm thankful to have them, and when they're hits, that's awesome, but I don't know if it's a single or not," Lambert says of "Tin Man." "I don't care, really. I have 24 songs that I want to showcase at some point ... I just felt like this opportunity is a time for me to show that I'm a true singer-songwriter, and that, you know, I kind of am all over the map, as far as the emotional journey, on this record, and this is just another piece."
Lambert wrote "Tin Man" with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram in the summer of 2015. It's a tribute of sorts to Lambert's favorite Kenny Chesney song, also called "Tin Man."
“I was a little worried at first about writing another song like that, but I told Kenny … I felt the same emotion I feel when I hear that song. I was feeling it myself, and the other two co-writers were feeling it as well," Lambert explains. "It comes from the same place, and I guess it inspired it.”
Lambert is nominated six times at the 2017 ACM Awards: She's up for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Single Record of the Year, Song of the Year (as both the artist and a writer) and Video of the Year. The awards show is set to take place on April 2 in Las Vegas, Nev., and air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET.
