Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation Distributes $200,000 Through Mutts Across America Initiative
Miranda Lambert has helped hundreds of animals once again. The songstress' MuttNation Foundation launched its second annual Mutts Across America: 50 States / 50 Shelters initiative in January, with overwhelming results.
A total of $206,000 was distributed to shelters all over the country, with a minimum of $3,000 going to each shelter.
“I feel so passionately about helping all animals, and I’m thrilled that we have once again been able to give to phenomenal shelters all across the country," Lambert says. "The people at these shelters do such amazing work day in and day out and are truly heroes for the animals.”
To choose which shelters would receive donations, the MuttNation Foundation board looked specifically for those with high adoption and volunteerism rates, passionate staff and volunteers, good fiscal responsibility, a push for spaying and neutering and special causes, like a horse sanctuary or disabled pet farm. The board also considered the presence of the shelter on social media and in the community.
“In October 2014, we took over our first owned and operated shelter in Tishomingo, Okla., Redemption Ranch," MuttNation Foundation co-founder (and Lambert's mother) Bev Lambert explains. "Prior to that, we didn’t operate a shelter, but we adhered to the belief that we should 'hold up the arms' of those who do. We are fortunate enough to have the funding again this year to continue this initiative which is so important. We believe the selected shelters stand as examples in the fight to end animal homelessness, abuse and neglect, as well as encouraging adoption, spay and neuter programs and avoiding needless euthanasia.”

To date, Lambert's foundation has raised more than $1.5 million for animal causes, including spay and neuter efforts, medical treatments, adoptions, transportation, legislative changes and education. In addition to her award-winning career, the cause gets much of Lambert's time and attention, not to mention finances. She raised more than $600,000 at her seventh annual Cause for the Paws event, held last year in Las Vegas. A separate online auction raised almost $66,000 more.
“I always have a great time in Vegas, but being able to save dogs along the way was probably the best,” Lambert said of the event. “Getting to do what I love and help the cause that’s closest to my heart, and do it in Vegas; it doesn’t get any better. With the money raised, I am looking forward to seeing lots of dogs find loving forever homes through adoption.”
