With their May 14 wedding date fast-approaching, Miranda Lambert is worrying about, well, the same things any other bride is concerning herself with at this point. The only difference is that she's marrying Blake Shelton.

They may have an unconventional life, spending time at either of their neighboring ranches in Oklahoma when not performing in front of thousands of adoring fans, but the Texas native insists they are both traditional people when it comes to certain things, including the groom asking her father for her hand in marriage. "Yes, he actually did," the 27-year-old reveals to Cowboys & Indians magazine. "They sat down together and had a conversation. I don't know how it went, though I presume it went well. But that was really important to me. That goes back to my roots, I guess. I think every man should ask the girl's dad for her hand."

The couple had a successful run at awards shows recently with Miranda taking home three CMA Awards, and Blake wining his first trophy for Male Vocalist. But in spite of their superstar status, they're just regular people. "After the CMA Awards last November, people asked us, 'What did you do when you got home?'" she explains. "And I said, 'Well, he burned a brush pile, and I made chocolate chip cookies.' We just went back to our normal lives in rubber boots."

The former 'Nashville Star' contestant says it's actually a blessing they both share the same career, even though it has its downfalls. "I really never thought about him being in the business, to be honest," she insists. "I fell in love with the person. But then all the other stuff goes down, and they start to talk about you and you're in the press. I thought, 'Well, this sucks.' Right away, we were in the public eye because we were a couple, and I didn't like that part of it. But by the time we get married, we'll have been together six years. And we've learned how to deal with it by going through it."

Things got a little heated between the couple when the soon-to-be groom forgot one important detail. "I was getting a cup of coffee and I heard her on the phone," Blake divulges to North Carolina radio station WTQR (quote via Country Weekly). "She goes, 'What? Damn it!' She hung up and I said, 'What's going on?' She said, 'Look at this e-mail. 'She showed me one of those trash magazines had printed our wedding date."

But that turned out not to be her biggest source of contention for the day. "I go, 'Well, is it right?' Blake continues. "And that didn't go over too well because, apparently, it's a big deal to not know when your wedding is. But I said, 'Well gosh dang, it's in May. I don't commit that to memory yet. I took off the week she said to take off. It's in there somewhere."

Chances are, Blake will remember the important date from now on.
