Mindy McCready Hospitalized After Suspected Overdose
UPDATE: TMZ is now reporting that Mindy McCready did not overdose, but did in fact have a reaction to narcotic painkiller Darvocet. Mindy's rep Brent Young told TMZ that the 911 call that landed her in the hospital was a result of her mother, Gayle, "overreacting." He added that Mindy had taken the pills to ease the pain of her recently broken toe, and after complaining that she wasn't feeling well this morning, Gayle made the emergency call.
The country star, who has a long history of alcohol and prescription drug abuse, just recently completed a stint on 'Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew,' crediting the show with saving her life. She was seemingly back on the right track, both personally and professionally, releasing a new album last month and recently winning the rights to reopen the custody case involving her four year old son, Zander. The little boy is currently under the care of Mindy's mother. Mindy was in North Fort Myers, Fla., visiting them this week. WENN reported that she was found unconscious at Gayle's home on Tuesday morning.
Mindy's rep also suggested to TMZ that the 911 call may have been a move by Gayle to strengthen her custody argument for Zander, further exacerbating the highly publicized battle. The rep tells TMZ that Mindy is "totally coherent. She can't believe her mom did this."
Despite her past incidents with drug abuse, TMZ's latest update does seem supported by Mindy's recent interview with The Boot. At the time, the newly sober songbird was in good spirits and looking forward to releasing music in her future. She opened up about her experience on 'Celebrity Rehab' and the struggle she faced to get her life together ("I decided to survive instead of lay down and die and be the victim"), as well as her excitement about a new boyfriend ("This is a different kind of love ... a grown-up kind of love, a real kind of love").
