Mickey Gilley is returning to the road after recovering from an accident that left him paralyzed.

Gilley was paralyzed in 2009, when a sofa crushed four of his vertebrae while he was helping a friend move. The singer has been undergoing intense physical therapy for years, and he is now ready to walk, sing and perform.

“I have always loved performing and I know nothing else,” Gilley says in a press release. “Getting back on stage in all of these cities is something to look forward to each and every day. The outpour of love and concern from the fans, my fellow artist friends, and the music community has kept me fighting to walk back on that stage, so I am glad that time is finally here.”

Gilley has had 39 Top 10 country songs during his career, and 17 No. 1 hits, including 'Stand By Me,' which was featured in the iconic 1980 film 'Urban Cowboy.' Gilley is known as being instrumental to the beginning of the Urban Cowboy era when he opened Gilley's honky tonk in 1971. The film was based on an Esquire magazine article, 'The Ballad of the Urban Cowboy,' which was written about the famous bar.
