Country music's sweetest new power couple, Michael Ray and Carly Pearce, thrilled the crowd with an emotional cover of "When You Say Nothing at All" in Knoxville, Tenn., on Thursday (Nov. 1). Readers can press play below to watch a video clip of the duo's rendition, captured by a fan at the intimate performance.

Pearce kicks off the sweet love song, joined on the chorus by Ray, as the pair blend a harmony on the tender lyrics, written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz and originally recorded by Keith Whitley in 1988. The song was immortalized in 1995 by Alison Krauss and her band Union Station, when they recorded it for a Whitley tribute album after his untimely death in 1989.

Pearce joined Ray for his show at Cotton Eyed Joe for the spontaneous duet. The pair plan to sing together once again on Friday evening (Nov. 2) at the Grand Ole Opry.

It's not the first time that the up-and-coming country couple has surprised the audience with a throwback cover: They teamed up for some June Carter and Johnny Cash for a cover of "Jackson" at the Grand Ole Opry back in August, not long after they confirmed rumors that they were dating.

Pearce has described her latest single, an uptempo love song called "Closer to You," as a reflection of the recent changes in her life since releasing her debut album Every Little Thing, including the development of her relationship with Ray.
