Maddie & Tae Get Emotional After Big Win at 2022 CMT Music Awards
Maddie & Tae stole the show at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11), bringing home the title of Duo/Group Video of the Year. The duo's Maddie Font accepted the award in person during the show, while Tae Kerr joined from home on a big screen with her brand-new baby girl.
The duo won for their "Woman You Got" video, and Font was notably excited and emotional, crying on stage and saying to her partner on screen, "I miss you so much and I can't do this without you," before adding with a laugh, "And I've been drinking because I'm so nervous." Tae chimed in, "I love you; you're doing great."
"This is much bigger than an award to us," Font added before thanking the duo's entire team — and apologizing for saying "the F word" on stage. Needless to say, it was quite the speech and a genuinely heartwarming moment, given the duo's journey.
Competition was tight in this category: Other nominees included Brothers Osborne's "I'm Not for Everyone," Dan + Shay's "Steal My Love," Old Dominion's "I Was on a Boat That Day," Parmalee's "Take My Name" and Zac Brown Band's "Same Boat."
The lead single off the duo's Through the Madness Vol. 1 album, "Woman You Got" is an upbeat and confident earworm about getting married and being upfront about all the eccentricities you bring to the table. Fittingly, the music video features bandmates Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr in their elements with their real-life husbands; both couples got married within the last three years.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards broadcast live from Nashville on CBS. This year marked the first time that the awards show has aired on a major network.
