Maddie & Tae Thrilled to Earn CMA Awards Nomination in ‘Redemption Year’
For a fifth consecutive year, Maddie & Tae are nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year at the 2019 CMA Awards. The trophy has been won by a long list of iconic pairs -- from Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty to Brooks & Dunn, another 2019 category nominee -- and while Brothers Osborne have taken home the honor for the past three years, there's always hope for a switch-up, especially after the year Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye have had.
In 2019, Maddie & Tae have released two EPs (April's One Heart to Another and October's Everywhere I'm Goin') and opened for Carrie Underwood on her 2019 Cry Pretty Tour 360. "It’s just an honor [to be nominated], especially with this year and how much has happened with our career the past couple of years," Marlow tells The Boot.
"This year has been our redemption year, where we feel like we’ve gotten our power back and gotten back on track and just been able to tell our story and [earn] so many different accolades this year for us," she adds, "so it’s a really cool feeling having our peers recognize and notice what we’ve accomplished this year."
In addition to Brothers Osborne and Brooks & Dunn, Maddie & Tae are competing for Vocal Duo of the Year with Dan + Shay and Florida Georgia Line. "We’re probably the youngest ones in the category, and the only females in the category," Marlow points out.
In addition to their five Vocal Duo of the Year nods, Maddie & Tae are also prior CMA New Artist of the Year nominees (2015). They've won one CMA trophy thus far in their career, for Music Video of the Year, for their breakout single, 2015's "Girl in a Country Song."
The 2019 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 13, at 8PM ET. The ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
