Luke Bryan Has a Summer Krush on Jimmy Kimmel
Luke Bryan was having trouble with a new mic stand when he kicked off the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series at the Grand Ole Opry House, but the audience didn't even notice because they were having so much fun dancing and singing along to his songs.
"It was cool to be in there," Luke tells The Boot. "It's a dream come true, anytime you can walk into the Grand Ole Opry house and have an audience like the way they were the other night. It was very special.
"The only thing was, I had this new mic stand, and I don't know know why I decided to try it out that night," the singer continues. "Plus the stage was slippery and I couldn't move around like I wanted to, I just couldn't get my footing."
One lucky young man named Justin was thrilled that Luke didn't like the stand, because toward the end of the show, Luke gave it to him. "I've never had a guy tell me he loved me more than you during a show," the singer said as he called Justin forward and handed him the stand. A few minutes later he autographed it for him.
The crowd that gathered for the show screamed, whistled and clapped when Luke sang his hits 'Do I,' 'Country Man,' 'Rain Is a Good Thing' and his latest, 'Country Girl (Shake It for Me)." Luke's female fans did their best to adhere to the statement he made, "It's OK to shake it!" before he sang the tune, some even standing in the aisles to dance throughout the song.
And the happily married Luke also has the OK from his wife to encourage such behavior.
"She loves it," he notes. "She knows that for me to be successful on the road, people have to come and have fun. She has big smile on her face watching everybody have a good time. This whole thing has been an amazing ride, seeing the fans react like that. It still surprises me at the success that 'Country Girl' has had for me."
Luke dedicated 'We Rode in Trucks' to the men and women in the military, thanking them for doing what they do so he could bring his music to his fans. He also did a few songs off his upcoming new album, 'Tailgates and Tanlines.'
Portions of the show from the Opry House will air on ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on August 11. "We had been trying to get to go on Kimmel's show, and then they called and pitched the idea for me to be part of this Summer Krush series," Luke explains. "We loved it and thought it would be one of the easiest and fun ways to do the show right now."
'Tailgates and Tanlines' will be available on August 8. The first single from the new CD, 'Don't Want This Night to End,' has been released to radio.
The fourth annual Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series takes place in nine cities through September, with each artist performing a free private show for a limited number of invited guests. Coldplay continues the tour at the LA Tennis Center on August 3 in Los Angeles, and the Band Perry take part with a performance at Gilley's in Dallas on August 8. A part of their concert will air on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 17.
