Love and Theft Plan Ahead for New Music, New Record Deal
When Love and Theft's deal with Lyric Street Records ended, thanks to the closing of the Disney-owned label back in April, the band picked up the pieces and decided to put the future of their career in their own hands. In between weddings for band members Eric Gunderson and Brian Bandas, the band has been focusing on their songwriting, while keeping their eye on signing to a new label and releasing new music very soon.
"We are really busy right now," Love and Theft's Stephen Barker Liles tells The Boot. "We've been taking care of a lot of things ourselves which has made us become businessmen. It's been really cool for us to take control of our own career and see all the small things. We've been cutting expenses that we didn't realize would make such a big deal. We're really involved now with our business management and our booking agency that's been busy with keeping us on the road. It's been a really good learning experience for us. We're excited about moving forward with a new label and some new music."
For the first time, Stephen, Eric and Brian are able to create music their own way, with no one telling them any differently. "The sound that is going to be on the record is going to be a little bit different," Stephen explains. "We're going to do something a lot more organic, along the lines of Crosby, Stills & Nash or the Eagles with a country-vibe. We're trying to lean away from the over polished sound. We want to do something a little more organic with our own little Love and Theft twist on it. We're really looking forward to it."
As a whole, Love and Theft are anxiously awaiting the next several months while they anticipate making a big announcement. "We all like to plan ahead ... I don't know anybody who really doesn't," Eric tells The Boot. "We want to have that security and know that we're going to have some type of home musically in the future. I think now we kind of have an idea of what's going to happen. We're about to go into he studio and make some new music. We are excited to have a plan now."
