If there was ever a Christmas song to serenade you to sleep on Christmas Eve, it's Laura Gibson's cover of 'Wonderful Christmastime.' The Portland-based singer-songwriter is sharing the song's music video exclusively with readers of The Boot -- Merry Christmas, indeed.

'Wonderful Christmastime,' originally sung by Paul McCartney, gets a mellow transformation from folk artist Gibson; the normally showtune-worthy song is minimal and stark, a far cry from Macca's original recording, but not lacking in style.

"I tend to like the more quiet, contemplative Christmas songs and usually avoid such bombastic cheer, but 'Wonderful Christmastime' always gets stuck in my head around this time of year," says Gibson. "I thought a downtempo, lonely-sounding version might work really well with the melody and lyrics. It didn't turn out as melancholic as I had imagined. Dave Depper, who played bass and electric, said it sounded 'stony.' It was so much fun to make."

In the video, Gibson sits on a stool with her classical guitar, twinkling Christmas lights in the background, crooning out the holiday tune with her own unique artistic interpretation. The juxtaposition of the cheerful, boisterous lyrics with Gibson's laid-back singing and stripped-down set is worthy of more than one listen.

'Wonderful Christmastime' is available on Amazon's first-ever holiday playlist, 'All Is Bright,' which features performances of holiday favorites, rarities and newly written songs from artists like Ashley Monroe, Lucinda Williams, Brandi Carlile, Jessie Baylin, Liz Phair, Yoko Ono with the Flaming Lips and more.
