Kid Rock Calls ‘The View’ Host Joy Behar ‘a B—h’, Loses Nashville Christmas Parade Grand Marshal Title
After making a controversial comment about The View host Joy Behar on Friday (Nov. 30), Kid Rock has been stripped of his 2018 Nashville Christmas Parade grand marshal title. Parade organizers made the decision as the artist faced backlash for his words, bestowing the honor instead on James Shaw Jr., the man who disarmed the gunman in the shooting at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tenn., in April.
"Parade organizers feel that the grand marshal should personify the spirit of the Nashville community," the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, the parade's beneficiary, announced in a statement (quote via the Tennessean). "The parade is a fun family tradition that also raises money for worthy charitable causes. We appreciate the hundreds of community volunteers who are working hard to make this year’s parade another great event.”
On Friday morning, Rock appeared on Fox News' Fox & Friends show and called Behar "a b---h." He also suggested, "people need to calm down [and] get a little less politically correct."
"God forbid you say something a little bit wrong, you're racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, this that and another," Rock stated. "I would say, 'love everybody,' except I'd say, 'Screw that Joy Behar b---h.'"
Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy apologized on air for Rock's comments. Rock added, "I mean lady," and claimed that he was joking; he also said, "I apologize for the language, not the sentiment."
"We all love this country, and let's have different ideas but try to move forward and be more together," Rock continued. "At the end of the day, we're all Americans."
Rock made his Fox & Friends appearance from Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse, a new restaurant on Lower Broadway. He partnered with Al Ross and Steve Smith, owners of the iconic honky-tonk Tootsie's, on the venue, which opened recently. Tootsie's and other Lower Broadway bars owned by Smith are also among the sponsors of the Nashville Christmas Parade, the Tennessean reports.
Before Rock was officially ousted as Nashville Christmas Parade grand marshal, Nashville Mayor David Briley said that he would likely not participate in the event if Rock remaind in the role. Nashville Metro Councilman Freddie O'Connell also intended to boycott the event. The parade is not sponsored by Nashville's government, the Tennessean reports, but members of the government are traditionally part of the event.
The 2018 Nashville Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday (Dec. 1).
