Kenny Chesney Scores Songwriting Touchdown

During a dinner conversation last year, Kenny Chesney had a songwriting "moment." Beginning Sept. 3 and continuing throughout the fall, football fans will be able to share in that flash of inspiration.

Last fall, Kenny was invited to appear on the the Nashville edition of ESPN's 'College Game Day' show.The night before the telecast, while having dinner with a few notables from the network, the suggestion was made that Kenny write a song to capture his love of football.

"It was one of those moments of spontaneous inspiration," says Kenny. " We were talking about how much goes into getting on that field, what it means to those guys out there... and [ESPN producer] Bill Bonnell turns to me and says, 'You oughta write a song about it ...' I mean, there we were at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse with [play-by-play announcer] Brett Musburger, [college football analyst] Kirk Herbstreit and the head producer of 'ESPN Saturday Night Football on ABC' [Bonnell] -- and the next morning I'm gonna do "College Game Day' -- and it just hit me! I asked for a cocktail napkin, and started writing the verses and the chorus."

With that, 'This Is Our Moment' was born. After presenting a copy of the inspirational tune to the network, they decided it would be the perfect musical accompaniment for ESPN and ABC's College Football Kickoff Weekend. The song will also be heard during select games throughout the season, including bowl games and the National Championship.

ESPN will premiere 'This Is Our Moment' exclusively during its pregame show, Sept. 3, at 7:00 PM ET.
