Kenny Chesney Is Country’s Top Money Maker
So much for economic downturn! When it comes to music, plenty of acts can still bank some serious buck.
In a Billboard survey of the top moneymakers for 2008, Kenny Chesney reigned as country music's top earner, raking in more than $90 million for 2008. That total puts him at No. 6 on the list. Two spots behind him at No. 8, Rascal Flatts took in more than $63 million for the year.
In her first time on the annual list, Taylor Swift pocketed a cool $45 million, enough to place her at No. 16 for the year. It was a good year to be a teenager: Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers also landed among the Top 20.
With $242 million taken in for the year, 2008's top music money maker overall was Madonna. Other country music-friendly acts on the list include Bon Jovi (No. 2), earning $157 million and The Eagles (No. 11) with $61 million earned for the year.
The majority of the acts on the list earned much of their 2008 income from touring, but interestingly enough, Taylor Swift's opening spots on Brad Paisley's Paisley Party tour were not considered when tallying her total revenue for the year.
