When it comes to having children, Kellie Pickler isn't bowing to peer pressure. The singer says she and her hubby, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, are in no hurry just because other people her age are having kids.

"I don't think people realize the responsibility that comes along with it. It's almost like a fad," Kellie tells CMT Radio (quote via People).

Kellie, who turns 25 on Tuesday (June 28), adds, "I don't know what's gotten into these kids where they feel like they have got to have a baby because their friend has one. They don't take into consideration that it's a very selfish thing to do if you're not prepared and ready."

Although she believes she and Kyle, who were married on New Year's Day in the Caribbean, are stable enough to handle parenthood, they're taking their time before committing to it.

"I take that very seriously, and when Kyle and I are ready, then we will maybe cross that bridge if it ever gets here," she notes. "Maybe life gives us a surprise, but we're married and we have stability in our lives, so if that does happen, we are prepared."

The North Carolina native, who is working on her third album, which includes the first single, 'Tough,' acknowledges that before her husband, she had never experienced true love with anyone or a relationship like the one she has with him.

"That is no disrespect to anyone I know or grew up with," Kellie tells The Boot. "I know that my grandmother really showed me how to be a wife, a good wife. I never thought I'd be one though, because I never thought there would be a man out there who could love me. There's more flaws than smooth edges. They're mostly jagged, tattered. I'm really tattered at the seams. I'm very blessed. Kyle is definitely my saving grace."

While children may not be in their immediate future, delivery of Kellie's as-yet-untitled album is imminent. No release date has been announced but The Boot will continue to be on album (and baby) watch, sharing more details as they become available!
