Keith Urban Wins Two Aussie Country Awards

The 40th annual Jayco Country Music Awards of Australia were held Saturday (Jan. 28) in Tamworth, New South Wales, as part of the 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival. Keith Urban tied Aussie artist Beccy Cole for the most wins of the night, each receiving two golden guitars.

Keith was named this year's Male Artist of the Year for 'Long Hot Summer' and was awarded the Sanity Top Selling Album of the Year for 'Get Closer.' The singer-songwriter was unable to attend the ceremony, as he and his wife, Nicole Kidman, were in West Hollywood, Calif., for the first annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts awards on Friday (Jan. 27).

Keith recently celebrated the success of 'Long Hot Summer' in Nashville with his co-writer Richard Marx. The Aussie told The Boot that the tune was written in two parts, with the second interrupted by certain famous musician.

Keith was on tour with the Eagles in Chicago, where Richard resides, when the pair decided to pick the song back up. "We were sitting on the bus working, trying to finish the song, when Joe Walsh (Eagles guitarist) came onto the bus," Keith relayed.

"We had to tell him we were trying to finish a song and he was like, 'Oh, I can come back,'" Richard added. "So he left, and we finished it and did a work tape on it. Then Keith put it on his album! It's one of my favorite songs that we've written. You always hope that when someone else records something you wrote, they will do it justice. When Keith sent me the recording of it after he had been in the studio, I called my family in to listen to it. There was just this one moment of 'I hope it doesn't stink' before I hit the button, and it was great."

Keith is currently gearing up for his first stage performance since undergoing surgery for a polyp on his vocal chords in November. He'll perform on the Grand Ole Opry Feb. 3. Get a full list of tour dates here.
