Keith UrbanKeith Urban may call Australia home, but the state of Tennessee can currently lay claim to the star. The singer, who has a home just outside of Nashville with his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, is in the running for Tennessean of the Year by Nashville's Tennessean newspaper.

While his outstanding music career includes earning two Grammys (with nominations for three more early next year), ten No.1 singles and more than ten million albums sold, it's Keith's generous heart that makes him a contender for the title. Generating more than $500,000 for the Country Music Hall of Fame with his 'All For the Hall' benefit, which included guests Taylor Swift, Vince Gill, Jason Aldean, Faith Hill and others, Keith has already pledged to do it again next year.

He's in good company. Joining him as a contender is governor of the state, Phil Bredesen, celebrated chef Randy Rayburn, the research team from Meharry Medical College and ACLU Tennessee director Hedy Weinberg.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 27, but should he win, Keith won't be in Tennessee at the time. He'll be in Australia celebrating the holidays with his family.
