Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have offered a helping hand to Australians affected by the worst wildfires in that country's history.

The couple donated a half-million Australian dollars -- equivalent to $327,000 in U.S. dollars -- to victims of the fires. They also appear in a TV ad for the Red Cross, asking others to donate to the cause. On Thursday, Urban and Kidman were joined in 'Australia Unites' a telethon featuring other Aussie superstars, including Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts and Hugh Jackman, to encourage donations to the fund-raising effort.

"Our hearts go out tonight to all the families that are dealing with the loss of loved one and having to rebuild their lives," said Urban.

The wildfires left 181 people dead. In addition, 2,000 homes were destroyed and more than 5,000 people were left homeless. Arson is suspected in at least two of the fires.
