Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood Team Up for Australian Tour
The Australian leg of the trek is scheduled to begin on Dec. 6 in Adelaide and play in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney before wrapping up with two concerts in Brisbane, on Dec. 16 and 17. It will be Underwood's third trip to Australia; previously, she performed there in 2011 and 2012. Urban, of course, was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia; he moved to Nashville in the early 1990s.
“I would write, and I would stay at a hotel. A guy named Greg Kane, who was an engineer at MCA Publishing, said, ‘Come stay at my house. It will be much easier than staying in a hotel.’ So the next trip, I stayed at his house, and I brought clothes and sort of left them there,” Urban recalls. “And on the next trip, I brought more clothes and left them there. Slowly I sort of moved in.
“I was excited to be leaving things at his house, because it made me feel like I lived in Nashville, which is all I wanted to do,” he adds. “That’s why it’s always been hard to put a timeline on when I moved to Nashville, because I was moving in since 1990. I finally had the last of my stuff here by 1992.”
Urban's upcoming new album, RipCORD, features Underwood on a song. “The Fighter” is the record’s eighth track and was both written and co-produced by busbee and Urban, and the singer explains that "it’s a call-and-response song between a guy and a girl, and Carrie’s on that song with me.”
Prior to visiting Australia, Urban's tour will play throughout the U.S. and Canada; it is set to begin on June 2 in Kansas City, Mo., with Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris joining Urban as special guests during the North American leg. Underwood, meanwhile, is currently on the road on her own Storyteller Tour. She recently extended the trek through the fall; it will wrap up on Nov. 28 in West Valley City, Utah, before she heads to Australia with Urban
